Alvin Chau is facing accusations of leading a secret society.
Macau legal officials recently declared that Alvin Chau has been recognized as the head of a clandestine organization. He is presently held in confinement as he awaits his legal proceedings.
Chau, the chief executive and majority stakeholder of Macau Legend Development, was apprehended earlier for purported participation in illicit financial transactions and unlawful international wagering.
This recent event comes after an extended inquiry into businesses connected to Suncity head, Levo Chan, who was apprehended in November 2021. At that juncture, legal representatives asserted that Chan was directing an “unlawful assembly,” a less severe accusation under Macau legislation compared to being affiliated with a secret society.
The legal representatives’ declaration claims that Chau conspired with the unlawful assembly led by Levo Chan to conduct illicit betting operations and money cleansing actions.
A sum of four individuals, including Chau, have been apprehended since the previous Friday. However, only Chau has been placed in confinement following a judgment by a regional magistrate.
The legal representatives stated that the unlawful actions the four are believed to be implicated in “have had a detrimental effect on Macau’s societal harmony as well as the sound and enduring advancement of Macau’s betting sector.”
Chau is presently confronted with four accusations.
The head of the criminal organization faces a 15-year prison term, the harshest punishment they could impose. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg – authorities nailed him for illicit financial transactions, operating an unlawful wagering operation, and even manipulating outcomes at his own gaming establishments. His downfall is imminent, and it promises to be messy.
