Mississippi’s gambling houses witnessed a slight surge in sports wagering earnings in December, although it remained lower than the preceding month.
Sports betting in Mississippi generated $56.8 million in December, representing a 2.8% rise from the previous year. However, this marked a 6.2% decline from November.
The bulk of the wagers were placed at casinos situated along the Mississippi coastline, accumulating $37.5 million. Gambling establishments in the central area of the state recorded $10.7 million in bets, while casinos in the north garnered $8.7 million.
The most favored sport for wagering was American football, attracting $24.9 million in bets. Basketball secured the second spot with $15.5 million in stakes. Parlay bets amounted to $10.4 million, and other wagers totaled $6.1 million.
Following the disbursement of winnings, the state collected $3.2 million in revenue for the month. This represented a 59% decrease from 2020 and a 66.3% drop from November.
The coastal region emerged as the leading contributor to revenue, generating $2.2 million. The northern region trailed behind with $553,536, while the central region brought in $496,568.
