The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has issued its initial blocking orders against seven partner gambling advertising websites.
The organization has asked Australian Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to restrict access to Aussie Casino Hex, Australia OK Casinos, Aussie Online Pokies, Pokies, Australian Casino Club, Australian Gambling, and True Blue Casinos.
The ACMA stated that these websites pretend to be impartial reviewers of gambling services, adding that blocking them is a priority because they provide direct links to unlawful gambling services and often receive commissions for driving traffic.
“These marketing websites can lead you to illegal gambling services that do not have the protection of licensed and regulated services,” said ACMA Chair Fiona Cameron.
“We regularly receive consumer complaints that bonuses aren’t paid out, and incentives and pressure tactics are targeted at individuals with gambling problems.”
The agency began making blocking requests in November 2019 when it gained new enforcement powers. Since these powers came into effect, 279 gambling websites deemed to be operating unlawfully have been blocked.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has been taking a tough stance against illicit offshore gambling websites, and their endeavors are yielding results. In June, they blocked Kings Chance Service, the most recent website to be closed down.
Since 2017, when the ACMA began enforcing new regulations, approximately 144 gambling operators have withdrawn from Australia.
“We possess the knowledge to assist you, and we are actively pursuing these unlawful websites and their organizations, compelling them to leave Australia,” stated ACMA Chair, Nerida O’Loughlin.
