The California Attorney General, Xavier Becerra, revealed that the Hawaiian Gardens Casino in Los Angeles has consented to a $3.1 million agreement with his office to settle claims of deceiving gambling authorities.

The gambling establishment was also discovered to have broken the Bank Secrecy Act, a federal law designed to combat money laundering.

In the settlement, Becerra (pictured) clarified how the casino neglected to reveal an investigation by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) into its actions and also tried to mislead the California Department of Justice for a prolonged period.

According to the Attorney General, Hawaiian Gardens for years failed to report, disclose, or reveal specific information to the Bureau of Gambling Control (BGC), which California’s 1998 Gambling Control Act mandates casinos to “fully and truthfully disclose” any legal matters to regulators.

The Hawaiian Gardens didn’t explicitly state that the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network or any other federal agencies were examining the casino in relation to the Bank Secrecy Act. They also didn’t mention that the casino and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network were in discussions that could result in the casino confessing to breaking the Bank Secrecy Act. Beserra highlighted that the casino acknowledged breaking the act in the settlement agreement.
